Vince Grippi grew up in Yonkers, New York, and earned an MFA at California College of the Arts. As a teen, he completed an apprenticeship to become a machinist. He became technical engineer of exhibits at the Exploratorium in San Francisco for Frank Oppenheimer after Naval service . He helped design the Microfiche system and has created a wide array of art. Also, he holds patents for surgical optical devices and food-processing machines such as the first mechanical egg-grading machine.
